GoT S02 Episode 3 - What Is Dead May Never Die

Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 3 seems to bring a whole new meaning to the term “unexpected”, as we are faced with a few developments that may be startling – as well as amusing in some cases.

We don’t see Daenerys Targaryen in this episode, and some may be quite happy to note that Joffrey is still missing from the spotlight, as well. Nevertheless, with the storyline more engaging than ever before, this episode is perhaps just as interesting, if not even more so, than the first two.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 3 – Making Preparations and Choosing Sides

As the different strategic plots continue to unfold in various sides of the continent, we witness some seemingly unusual developments in this episode. On the one hand, Renly Baratheon gets an unexpected visit from Catelyn Stark, who is not impressed of his progress. Apparently, he is more interested in organizing tournaments than winning the war.

On the other hand, in Pyke, Theon Greyjoy finds himself at a major crossroads, being forced by his father and sister to choose his side. Despite his emotional outburst and his opinion that they would be better off joining Robb Stark, however, his desire to be with the family that seemed to have abandoned him is stronger, as he wants to do everything it takes to prove himself worthy to them.

Tyrion Lannister Continues His Work in Style

We see a lot of scenes in Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 3 where there is an alternation of dramatic and humorous tendencies.  Tyrion Lannister’s ways of playing his new role as Hand of the King stir up quite a few conflicts as he smugly sets a trap to find out which of the Council members he can trust.

His plan works like a charm, and he ends up imprisoning Maester Pycelle after a scene worth remembering. He also manages to get Shae a job as Sansa’s new handmaiden; an ingenious move from Tyrion to keep her hidden in plain sight and safe from any potential plots that Cersei may try to employ against him, should Shae be discovered as his lover.

Arya Stark and Gendry’s Narrow Escape

On a sadder note, Arya Stark and Gendry’s journey seems to have come to an end for now, as Joffrey’s soldiers kill Yoren and many of his men after an epic struggle.

Fortunately, in Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 3, Gendry’s time has not come yet, as Arya’s quick thinking in a tight situation saves his life, making us wait at the edge of our seats to see what lies ahead for our heroes in the next episode.
