GoT S02 Episode 4 Walking a Fine Line– Garden Of Bones

Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 4 seems to spark up some of the already unstable situations that exist between many of the characters. Like in much of the rest of the show, we can see some progress being made, however, in each case, a shadow of doubt seems to cover the fate of literally all our heroes. A typical example is represented by the similitude of two brave young girls: Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen.

Daenerys Targaryen and Arya Stark on Similar Paths

Arya Stark and her friends were brought to Harrenhal as prisoners, where Gendry almost ends up being tortured. At the last moment, Tywin Lannister appears, and states that they need more laborers, stopping the torture session before it really begins. Tywin also calmly notices that Arya is a girl, and grants her a position as his cup bearer.

The curious twists of events we have become used to are not absent from Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 4 either, as, on the other side of the world, Daenerys faces similar trials, her people almost starving to death in the Red Waste when she gets news of a city named Quath, where she may be welcome.

After a heated conversation with the leaders of the city, she realizes that they are not so much interested in offering her and her followers sanctuary as they are in her precious dragons.

While she is later granted access to the city, just as in Arya’s case, the temporary safety of this setting may be more like a double-edged sword, but it is after all better than starving to death in a desert.

Game Of Thrones Season 2 Episode 4 - Garden Of Bones

Arya’s sister, Sansa Stark, is not that lucky, being almost made to pay for the “crimes” of her brother in the war against Joffrey.

Were it not for Tyrion’s intervention, the girl’s fate could have been far worse. We witness more of the young king’s seemingly unexplainable rage later on in a scene that showed just how far he was willing to go simply to get back at Tyrion.

Threats seem to be aimed high in Westeros, as Stannis and Renly meet on the coast of the Stormlands, unable to come to an agreement, since Stannis already sees all who try to come between him and his claim to the Iron Throne as being enemies.

It will be intriguing to see the further impact that the events depicted in Game of Thrones Season 2 episode 4 will have on the rest of the series, as almost all of our heroes seem at this point to be walking a fine line between the promise of glory and oblivion.
