GoT S02 Episode 5 Lost Hopes and New Opportunities

The Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 5 has again managed to keep us entranced by the mysteries and exciting new developments that this series has made us get used to. No matter how you try, however, you can hardly predict many of the ways in which the complex storyline of the show continues to unfold.

The Death of Renly Baratheon and the Flight of Catelyn Stark

Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 5 brings a sad new development for Catelyn Stark and her hopes to bring Renly Baratheon and her son together to fight their common enemy, when the mysterious shadow-like offspring of the sorceress

Melisandre quickly disposes of the king right before Catelyn’s eyes. She is then forced to flee to tell Robb Stark the bad news, taking Renly’s loyal bodyguard Brienne of Tarth with her.

Stannis Baratheon and Melisandre seem to have thought out their plans thoroughly, as with Renly out of the way, most of his men actually joined Stannis, and he is now in the position to attack King’s Landing on his own.

His advisor Ser Davos Seaworth made him have second thoughts about taking Melisandre along, however her power of persuasion is obviously not to be taken lightly by anyone.

New Propositions and Strategies in Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 5

On the other side of the front, in King’s Landing itself, Tyrion Lannister is up to his old tricks again, getting information from his new informant about the king’s disturbing defense plan against Stannis’ attack. This time, however, the need for Tyrion’s life saving schemes is much greater than ever before.

It is impressive how the show manages to take us so smoothly through all the new developments revolving around most of our heroes’ paths. We see Arya Stark and her mysterious new friend, Jaqen H’ghar, who is determined to pay his debt to the young girl.

We are also taken to the city of Qarth, where the Mother of Dragons receives a startling proposition by Xaro Xhaon Daxos, who promises her ships and wealth to take her rightful place on the Iron Throne. The price he asks for, however, is one that makes Daenerys Targaryen realize the difficulty of the decisions she has to make for herself and her people.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 5 is another fascinating episode, portraying the best and the worst sides of each character’s personality; from Stannis’ lack of any compromise in his determination to get the Iron Throne to Daenerys’ attempts of teaching her followers the virtues of respect and integrity, the story still keeps us glued to our seats with its thought-provoking developments.
